Why is it necessary to have a car scanner?

Car scanner is basically a tool used to diagnose the fault codes generated in the car due to some malfunctioning. It can be malfunctioning in engine or electrical system or in the braking system or any of the systems available inside a car. This malfunctioning generates fault codes and sent it to the ECM (Engine Control Module) and that codes get saved in the ECM memory. The scanner search for this DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) in the ECM memory and display it to the operator. In this era i.e. 21st century, every car consist of an ECM and has complete electronic operations inside it, also every car is equipped with the OBD II protocol as well as apart from the ECM there are n number of systems in a car like EPS (Electronic Power Steering), ABS (Anti Lock Braking System), BCM (Body Control Module), Auto Transmission, Foot well Module, Roof Module, Charging system, etc. The higher range of the car you select; the higher number of operating modules you discover. And to find out a fault inside that system on the basis of the warning light is a very tedious job and a time consuming job. Hence for a service man or a mechanic it is very important to have a scanner with them, as it saves time and energy of the mechanic, it pin points the fault in the any specific system or the component in an automobile, it improves efficiency of work and it brings satisfied customers. If we take an example, like suddenly while on road the warning light of ABS pops up and there is some issues in performance and that customer comes to a garage. Now the if the mechanic has the scanner then at that time he diagnose the car and find out the trouble is in which component or part of the Anti-lock Braking System and directly reaches that point of the car and repairs the car. Now if the mechanic doesn’t have any scanner, he’ll check each and every component of the ABS and using the trial and error method he’ll try to solve the problem, this direction of troubleshooting will be wasting time, wasting energy as well as there is no guarantee that the repair is done at the troubled point. But at the same time, if he’s having the scanner then he can repair the exact point of trouble and can solve the actual problem in the car. The above situations can actually trouble the mechanic and invest his time in wrong things. So a scanner is necessary equipment for any workshop or garage to speed up the work with higher efficiency.
