Why is it necessary to have a car scanner?

Car scanner is basically a tool used to diagnose the fault codes generated in the car due to some malfunctioning. It can be malfunctioning in engine or electrical system or in the braking system or any of the systems available inside a car. This malfunctioning generates fault codes and sent it to the ECM (Engine Control Module) and that codes get saved in the ECM memory. The scanner search for this DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) in the ECM memory and display it to the operator.

How to scan a car and what does the scanner tells you after the diagnostic test?

To scan the car, there is a 16 pin connector also called OBD II socket under the steering wheel. The scanner has a 16 pin connector which will be connected to the socket and then depending on the connection options like wireless or wired connection. The connector will be linked with the scanner and then using the software inside the scanner will read the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the memory of ECM (Electronic Control Module) of the car. Whenever there is problem in a car, the problem is detected by the dedicated system provided for that particular system.

After the detection of the trouble the ECM generates a DTC code and stores it in its memory and that code remains in the system until and unless it is removed or deleted using any scanner.

What is Key Coding process and how it works.

“Key Coding “as the word itself suggests; includes a physical key and the process of matching the key to the car.

In Late 90s manufacturers all around the world started making the car systems more secure by adding immobilizer system in the cars. The process included adding a transponder chip in the car key; which then emits a signal to the receiver of the Car ignition system. If the signal emitted by the transponder chip in the key is detected as “Wrong signal”, by the ignition system- the car won’t start.
